Ashton SFC celebrate award of IB status
The inspectors, who had a wide-range of international experience, including the ex-principal of the United Nations School in New York, praised the college for its outstanding facilities and expert staff. They felt that the college was in an excellent position to offer the course, which is the equivalent of studying for 5 full A-levels. The course is well-established and highly esteemed by Universities, including the top Universities in the country. The College is starting to offer the course in September 2010, with a small cohort of students who wish to maintain a wider range of subjects beyond GCSE than is possible with A-levels, including an international perspective through the study of a foreign language. A core part of the IB course is the participation in local community projects, creative and active pursuits and students will need to be committed to carrying out these activities in addition to their academic study. •
