Priestley share best practice at Beacon event
Twenty of Priestley's own Science students and the same number from Ashton took part in the day which was aimed at opening doors and progression routes in the areas of Science and Maths. Having been awarded Beacon College status in May 2007, Priestley has become a centre of excellence charged with sharing innovative and creative learning with other educational establishments. On the day the students listened to presentations on subjects such the ethical issues involving embryo testing and later were involved in a number of practical workshops taught by both Priestley and Ashton tutors including one that studied DNA lockets. Commenting on the success, Biology Tutor, Dr. Louise Norbury, said, "It was great to welcome our friends from Ashton Sixth Form College to campus and share our ideas and study techniques with each other." Adding, "The students took a lot from the experience including meeting new people as well as gaining the opportunity to look into issues and topics that are not part of the core curriculum."
