Wilberforce celebrates a year of success
Hundreds of students and their families descended on Hull City Hall to enjoy an evening dedicated to academic and extracurricular accomplishments. This is the seventh year running that the college has held the ceremony, awarding certificates for outstanding success and achievement. Principal Dr Stephan Jungnitz considers it to be one of the most important occasions in the college calendar. He said, "It is essential that we take time to celebrate how successful our students are and to recognise the marvellous progress they make whilst at Wilberforce College." Students at the College produced an excellent set of exam results in August 2009 and had an advanced level pass rate of 99% – the highest pass rate Wilberforce College has ever seen. Hundreds of certificates were awarded to last year’s leavers and to current students, including curriculum awards for outstanding effort in a subject area, and special awards for students who had overcome great obstacles throughout their education. The evening also included entertainment organised by the Wilberforce College Performing Arts Department, and presentations from guest speakers John Holmes, Chief Executive of Hull Forward and Tim Morris, Hull Connexions Area Manager. Former Malet Lambert pupil, Stephanie Harrison, was awarded a curriculum award for outstanding achievement in science. In August 2009, she gained an impressive five A grades at A level for Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Maths and General Studies. She is now studying Medicine at the University of Hull. Related
